Anyone for a spa day? If you said “no,” please run to your nearest therapist. If you said a resounding “yes,” please keep reading.
Last month I wrote about The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island, a fabulous, no expense spared resort where within its walls exists the Lowcountry’s most luxurious spa where you can sit back, relax and rejuvenate.
As I walked through the main doors, two smiling faces greeted me. They got me checked in and escorted me to the ladies’ locker room. It was like walking into my own private seaside mansion suite; light, airy and stocked with amenities. Then I was led into the waiting area where I was met with a warm neck wrap and a plush blanket. By the time I settled in with my book I didn’t want to leave.
The wood floors, plantation shutters and wall waterfall along with their intricate flora and fauna textured walls brought me to a place of complete tranquility. A beautiful white washed buffet was appointed, in true southern fashion, with infused water, homemade granola bars and assorted fruits but before I continue reliving my spa treatment, let me offer a description of the spa’s services.
The Sanctuary Spa services encompass every aspect of rejuvenation in complete luxury. There are men and women’s aqua retreats featuring a steam room, sauna and mineral whirlpool with a waterfall. They offer signature Sodashi facials, four different body experiences, nine different massages, two foot therapy experiences and several add-ons. There is a couples’ suite, which houses a relaxation area, private shower and bathroom and its own whirlpool. You can book couples massages or the ultimate Romance Retreat.
The attention to detail throughout the spa, not only in décor and presentation but also in service makes you feel pampered 100 times over.
My massage therapist led me down the hall to a beautiful, peacefully lit treatment room to receive my Sanctuary Signature Massage. I couldn’t help but notice that even the hall with its blonde hardwood floors and sea foam wainscoting was striking and tranquil.
A pleasant waft of aromatherapy filled the room as I stretched out on a warm table. As I rested my head face down in the cradle, I noticed directly beneath my gaze was a beautiful glass bowl filled with water and flowers. Again, no expense was spared and attention to detail gets an A++. When I rolled over onto my back for the second half of my massage, my therapist placed a warm bolster under my neck and a warm aromatherapy mask over my eyes. My senses were simultaneously stimulated and soothed as I drifted into the timeless space that exists between sleeping and awake. At that moment I knew what Heaven must be like.
